Down 16 points in the third quarter of the state final with their chance of bringing home a championship slipping away, Madison Central needed just one more big comeback. And once again, there was no quit in this Indian team. They pulled out a heart-stopping 65-64 miracle over Ballard to capture the 2013 KHSAA Sweet Sixteen state title.

Madison Central went on a 6-0 run  in the final minutes of the third to pull the Indians within 10. The gap closed to 6 heading into the final period. With 15 seconds left in the game, Mr. Basketball candidate Dominique Hawkins went coast-to-coast to score. The Indians trailed 64-62. A crucial Ballard turnover put the ball in Hawkins' hands, but he couldn't hold onto it. Ken-Jah Bosley picked up the loose ball and drained a three-pointer putting Madison Central ahead with 2.2 seconds left.

Madison Central lost to Ballard 88-86 in a previous meeting this season. On this day through sheer determination and heart, the Indians survived the Bruins to capture the first State Championship in school history with a final score of 65-64. Dominique Hawkins was named Tournament MVP.

Hawkins finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Ken-Jah Bosley added 20 points and 2 rebounds. Quan Taylor scored 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Indians.

Louisville commit Quentin Snider led Ballard with 23 points, 7 assists and 2 rebounds. Kelan Martin scored 19 points, 12 rebounds. Lavonne Holland added 15 points and 4 rebounds for the Bruins.

"I really believe the good Lord was looking after us," an emotional Coach Allen Feldhaus said after the thrilling win.

Ballard finishes the season with a 32-5 record.

The new tournament format appears to be a success. Today’s championship game was played in front of a boisterous 17,315 in Rupp Arena. That marks the highest total since 2008's Mason County/Holmes meeting. The weekly total of 123,363 is the highest attendance figure for a Boys’ Sweet 16 since 2009.
