If you haven't followed Madison Central, their convincing 81-56 win over Wayne County proved once again they are "as advertised." The Indians' senior leadership and athleticism proved too much for the young Cardinals to overcome in the opening game of the Boys Sweet Sixteen Tournament on Wednesday. Even UK coaches took notice as John Calipari and assistants Orlando Antigua and Kenny Payne stopped by Rupp Arena to see the game featuring Dominique Hawkins. Hawkins put on quite a show in front of the UK contingency,  scoring 25 points and 3 rebounds on 11-17 shooting. He also dished out 3 assists, blocked 1 shot and recorded 1 steal.

All of the hype was lost on the understated Hawkins who stated, "I didn't notice Coach Cal...so I didn't pay attention to him. It is an honor for him to be here. It is an honor for me to know that he was here." On recruiting, he lists Purdue, Alabama, Tennessee, Tennessee Tech, Western Kentucky, Morehead State, Kentucky and Louisville as teams that have shown interest.

Wayne Co. had little answer for Quan Taylor on the defensive end. Taylor scored 13 points and was a beast on the glass. He pulled down 15 boards. He also had 3 big blocks and 2 steals. Ken-Jah Bosley chipped in 19 points and 8 rebounds. He credited his teammates with helping his efforts. "They are two of the most athletic guys in the state of Kentucky," Bosley said of Taylor and Hawkins. He noted how they make his job easier because he just has to "throw the ball up there and they will find it."

Peyton Woods led Wayne Co. with 14 points and 3 rebounds. Corey Stearns and Trey Blevins added 10 points each. Jason Perkins chipped in 8 points and 4 rebounds.

The Cardinals end the season with a 31-3 record. Madison Central advances to face Holmes on Friday in the quarter-finals.
