Wayne County Takes Down 12th Region Favorite Pulaski County
Many thought Pulaski County was the team to beat for the 12th region title, but that might be Wayne County now as the Cardinals moved on to the 2nd round with a 57-54 win at Lincoln County High School.
The Maroons came out hot in the 3rd, going up by as many as 8 points, but Wayne County's Corey Stearns had a 9-0 run of his own to put Wayne County up 1. Pulaski did end the 3rd with a couple of baskets to lead 38-36 going into the 4th quarter.
The 4th quarter was much of the same, both teams going back and forth, and Wayne County's Peyton Woods' 8 points in the final frame and big shots from Jason Perkins proved too much for Johnson and Pulaski County.
The Maroon had a shot to tie at the buzzer, but Tyler Gover couldn't get it to go from the corner and Wayne held on for the victory.
Kody Johnson finished with 28 points for Pulaski County in the losing effort.
Wayne County will now play West Jessamine in the 12th region semifinals on Friday night at 6pm.
