Newport Catholic controlled the game for the first three quarters, leading 54-40 as the teams went to break. Holmes amped up the full-court press in the 4th and used the hot hand of James “Beetle” Bolden to climb back into the game. With seconds left in the game Bolden hit one of his six three pointers to give the Bulldogs a two-point lead. NewCath answered with a layup to tie the game at 69-all with 4 seconds remaining. A 3-point attempt from Holmes hit the front of the iron as time expired.

Each team would score four points in the first overtime period, and Holmes' B.J. Coston fouled out. NewCath controlled the tip in the second overtime and never looked back. Holmes hit a 3 at the buzzer to make the final margin 88-85.
Bolden led all scorers with 37 points, playing all 40 minutes despite being hobbled in the second overtime. Bolden also finished with 5 assists and 3 steals. Quinton Chames scored 12, collected 9 rebounds and blocked 2 shots for the Bulldogs, while senior Quan Palmer added another 15.
For the Breds, senior Nick Seibert led the way scoring 26 points, grabbing 8 rebounds and blocking 3 shots. Jake Schulte added another 20 points to the winning effort.
Newport Catholic’s time for celebration will be brief, as they face Beechwood at home on 2/9. Holmes will host Conner on 2/12.
