WYMT Classic Highlights Last Night's Friday Night Gym Lights
The WYMT Classic had Perry Central's gym sold out a hour before the first game started last night as the crowd was anticipating a Knott County win and a heated rivalry that had been put on hold in recent years.
The Knott County Patriots led from start to finish, beating Breathitt County 70-40. Camron Justice led the Patriots with 20 points in the semifinal blowout victory.
Perry Central used a huge first half to easily get past crosstown rival Hazard 65-46. Commodore guard Braxton Beverly had 28. PCC led 33-18 at halftime and Hazard never threatened.
Cordia got their first win with their new team, beating June Buchanan 75-51. Emmanuel Owootoah had 10 points, 12 assists and Marlon King had a game high 19 in the Lions victory. Cordia will start play in the 14th region All A Classic next week and are probably one of the favorites to make the trip to Frankfort.
St. X upset Trinity in Freedom Hall 45-42. Brock Kiesler and Alex Jones led St. X with 12 points a piece.
Mason County held off a second half surge by Ashland to pull out a 73-67 win. The Royals had a 47-24 lead at the half, but the Tomcats outscored Mason 22-6 in the 3rd to surge back into the game. Chris O'Hearn's squad played even in the 4th to hold on for the victory. Lucas Greenhill and Cameron Frame led Mason Co with 12 points a piece. Ashland was led by Dikembe Dixson's 27.
Holmes stayed perfect at 18-0 as the Bulldogs beat Cooper 50-44. Sophomore James Bolden had a game high 18 for Holmes.
