Willis, Troutman lead Bullitt East to Dunkin Donuts victory
The game was largely won in the first half by the Chargers, outscoring Lexington Catholic 23-12 in the first quarter and 15-11 in the second. Trey Rakes converted an and-1 opportunity at the 3:17 mark in the second period, which sparked Bullitt East to its 38-23 halftime advantage.
That momentum carried into the third quarter, with Bullitt East eventually taking a 27-point advantage in the period. The Knights of Lexington Catholic, however, kept pace with the Chargers and didn’t allow the margin to increase by a significant amount.
Catholic cut Bullitt’s lead to 12 at a couple points in the fourth quarter, once off a three-pointer from Dillon Avare, who finished with a team-leading 13 points. That was the closest the game would get, however.
The Knights were playing without their big man, 6-9 Jack Whitman, who suffered a concussion against Henry Clay. Bullitt East took advantage of that, as they consistently went inside for their points, hitting 20/33 of their two-point field goals.
Bullitt East will next take on Bullitt Central Monday, and Lexington Catholic will host Lexington Christian Tuesday.
