Whitman leads Lexington Catholic over Dunbar

Coming into Tuesday night's match-up with Lexington Catholic, the Bulldogs hoped to end a 12 game losing streak against the Knights. Jack Whitman had other plans. Whitman's 27 points and 13 rebounds helped the Knights defeat the Bulldogs for the 13th straight time.

If the first quarter was any indication, this one was going to be a battle. The teams were tied up at 15 after the first. Whitman hit his head on the backboard and that coupled with a Dunbar 7-0 run prompted a Lex Cath timeout. The Bulldogs led it 22-15 early in the second. An intentional foul by Michael Talbott sent Donnie Lewis to the line. He missed both free throws. The Bulldogs were 0-6 from the stripe in the first half. Dunbar took a 31-27 lead into the locker room at halftime. 

The Knights outscored the Bulldogs 18-15 in the third, but Dunbar held on to a 46-45 advantage headed into the fourth. A three by Lex Cath's Tanner Johnson tied the game at 48 with 4:08 to play. A foul by EJ Floreal (his third) on Jack Whitman gave the Knights a 50-48 lead. The Bulldogs had one final opportunity, but a block by Reese Ryan (his third of the night) and a missed follow-up three attempt sealed the win. Lexington Catholic holds off Dunbar 55-52.

Whitman was 10-13 from the field and 6-11 from the line. He also had two assists. Jarod Griffin added 12 points and three assists to go with 4 3-pointers for the Knights. Lex Cath shot 50% from the line compared to Dunbar's 12.5% and went 7-15 from beyond the arc. 

William Gary led the Bulldogs with 17 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists. EJ Floreal had 10 points, 9 rebounds and two blocks for Dunbar.

Lexington Catholic welcomes Lafayette on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Dunbar travels to Tates Creek on Friday at 8:00 p.m.
