Weekend Notes Involves Fights and Championships

The Road to Rupp had a busy week last, as I alone covered 6 games live and watched 10 games total, including Kentucky/Tennessee, UK Hoops vs. Auburn, UPike/Georgetown, and Magoffin County winning the 15th region All A Classic girls tournament.

We have another busy week planned, but let's check out what other action happened over the weekend that is paving the way to The Road to Rupp.

  • The Montgomery County Indians won the Toyota Classic over Covington Catholic 59-47 behind a 36 point, 17 rebound performance from senior Omar Prewitt. The story that overshadowed the championship was the brawl that happened during the game. There were several ejected, including an assistant coach from Covington Catholic. Here is a look at the altercation.--->
  • Trinity beat Ballard on a last second free throw to win the coveted LIT title. Louisville Football commit James Quick hit the free throw for the championship and finished with 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 steals. Here is a look at the LIT Final from the Courier Journal.

  • Knott County pounded Wolfe County to win the 14th region All A Championship 78-34. The Patriots, in my opinion, are 1 of 4 teams that I think could win the All A State Tournament.
  • The other 3 are the winner of Bishop Brossart/Louisville Collegiate, Newport Central Catholic, and Bardstown.
Just remember, if you want to see your team covered on The Road to Rupp, help us out by taking a couple of pictures with your smartphone. Take a picture of the game, the scorebook for each team, and even a video and send it to theroadtorupp@gmail.com.

Also, we are looking for people that want to cover the teams in your area, especially Western Kentucky and Louisville. Just send me an email and tell me where you live and why you want to cover high school basketball.
