'Round the State High School Hoops News
There were several eye opening games last night around the state that I thought deserved a mention.
The Lawrence County Bulldogs continued playing like the best team in the 15th region, beating Johnson Central 78-76 at home last night in a big 57th district battle. Lawrence has now won 9 out of their last 10. Another freshman, Brandon Richardson, led Lawrence Co. with 23 points. Johnson Central's Shane Hall only had 11.
#1 Ballard used a last second shot by Kelan Martin to sneak by Central 74-73. Martin finished with 22 points and 18 rebounds. Louisville commit Quentin Snider finished with 14.
Ethan Rowe had 29 and Ray Kasongo finished with 20 points and 14 rebounds and the Pikeville Panthers slammed the Belfry Pirates on the road 79-59. It is looking like all the 15th region All A semifinal teams are on fire right now.
Bryan Station upset #10 Lafayette 65-62 last night as Larry Morton had 23 points. Jackson Davis led the Generals with 17.
#9 Hopkinsville pounded Ft. Campbell 99-41 to win for their 5th win in 6 games and run their record to 12-4 on the season.
Graves County (14-4), who was ranked 4th in the recent 1st region Litkenhous Rankings, pounded the #1 team St. Mary (9-7) 72-51. Makes me wonder what the computer was thinking on this one.
The Paintsville Tigers got revenge last night as they destroyed the Jenkins Cavaliers 73-35. Trevor Tiller led the Tigers with 22 points. The Cavaliers beat the Tigers 53-45 at Jenkins at the beginning of the season.
