Newport Catholic Grinds Out a 47-33 Win over Somerset


It wasn't pretty, but Newport Catholic got by Somerset 47-33 in the 1st round of the All A Classic.

NewCath is thought of by many to be the favorite to win the All A Classic this year, but Somerset gave them a lot tougher game than many expected.

Both teams shot poorly, with the NCC shooting 37% and Somerset 25.6%.

The Thoroughbreds used a big second half to overcome a 30-29 halftime deficit to the BriarJumpers. NewCath outscored the BriarJumpers 28-13 to close the game out and get the victory.

Newport Catholic was led in scoring by Drew McDonald's 19 points and 8 rebounds. Jake Schulte had 13 and Michael Bueter finished with 11.

Somerset was paced by Ryan Dishman's 11 points. Tyson Williams finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Newport Catholic will play Louisville Holy Cross in Friday's quarterfinals at 8pm.
