Russell held off a late 4th quarter charge as they beat Butler County 69-68 in the 1st round of the All A Classic.
Russell senior Kyle Skaggs led the Red Devils with 33 points, going 10 for 20 from the field, 4-8 from three, and 9 of 12 from the free throw line.
Russell had a big third quarter, outscoring Butler County 17-8 for a lead of 59-44 going into the 4th quarter.
Butler County battled back and just came up short as they outscored the Red Devils 24-14 in the final frame.
The Bears were led by Zach Burden who had 23 points. Alex Hall only had 6 points, but finished with 15 rebounds.
Russell will play the winner of Louisville Collegiate/Bishop Brossart Friday night at 6:30pm.
