Cordia used big performances from their two new Lions and outlasted the Hazard Bulldogs 57-52 to advance to the semifinals of the 14th region All A Classic.
Emmanuel Owootoah (#0) and Marlon King (#1), who were just ruled eligible by a local court, were the difference for Rodrick Rhodes' team as they beat Hazard for the first time in over a decade.
Owootoah scored 19 points, had 7 steals, and put on a show of quickness and athleticism with Tennessee assistant coach Tracey Webster sitting behind the Cordia bench.
Marlon King had 13 points and 4 rebounds and A.J. Tagalea finished with 13 points.
Hazard was led in scoring by Mack Hall's 14. Jordan Olinger finished with 10.
Cordia tried to give the game away down the stretch, missing 8 free throws in the last minute, which contributed to the 12-21 from the line for the game.
Rhodes decided to put in 8th grader Austin Combs, his first appearance in the game, and he proceeded to knock down 2 free throws and grab the game winning rebound to preserve the victory.
The Lions (10-6) will now face the Knott County Central Patriots (16-3) Friday night at Breathitt County High School. Gametime is 8pm.
